My name is Hillary Copsey,
and my mission is to Make America Read Again.
I want to make Americans read more — more books,
more often, about more diverse topics — to encourage compassion, critical thinking and civil discourse. This is not about the books you should read or the books you need to be a good citizen — or, at least, it’s not just about them. This is about reading as a way to consider new perspectives and American stories and lives different
than our own.
Last year, a majority of Americans said they read one book. That’s a start, but I think we can do better. We must.
